list of border posts closed

South Africa is closing 2 seaports and 35 of its borders as part of efforts to halt the spread of the coronavirus. No passengers or vessel crews will be allowed to rotate through the two seaports, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Sunday night.

Ramaphosa ordered the closure of the borders as he declared a state of national disaster due to the COVID-19 pandemic rocking the world.

Two-thirds of border posts on land, and two out of eight seaports, will no longer allow the transit of people.

The border closures are part of wide-ranging measures to slow the spread of Covid-19 in South Africa.

Other measures with effect on the country’s ports are that people from high-risk countries will not be allowed into the country at all, and those from what are considered medium-risk countries will face extended health screenings.

Border posts with Lesotho, eSwatini, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia are affected.

Immigration remains open at all airports: OR Tambo in Johannesburg, Cape Town International, King Shaka in Durban.

These are all the South African border posts that are being shut down because of the novel coronavirus.
