One killed, another injured as dump truck crushes a Toyota Land Cruiser in Zambia FB IMG 1675344031047

One person was killed and another one seriously injured when a large dump truck ran over their Toyota Land Cruiser bakkie at FQM mine in Kalumbila, Zambia on Wednesday night.

Zambian police in North Western and FQM both confirmed to a local publication, Mwebantu, that the fatal accident happened at Kalumbila open pit mine when the truck ran over a Toyota Land Cruiser.

The passenger in the Toyota Landcruiser, Lolian Chona, 47, died at the scene while the driver, Davis Muyata, 35 was injured.

Zambian police spokesperson, Dennis Moola, said that the dump truck hit a stationary Toyota Landcruiser, crashing it to the ground.

He said Mr Chona sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot while Muyata had a bruised face and right arm among other injuries before being rushed to Marybergy clinic.

“The accident happened yesterday about 23h50 at Kalumbila Mine pit 1088 area. Involved was male Exevior Bwalya 42, who whilst driving an RD284 dump truck hit into a Toyota Land Cruiser,” Mr Moola said.

Meanwhile, FQM has expressed sadness at the accident.

“FQM is deeply saddened to announce that a worker at its Trident operation passed away following a traffic accident in the Sentinel Open Pit, involving a dump light truck and a light vehicle,” FQM chief executive officer Tristan Pascall said in a statement.
