undocumented immigrants nabbed at trucking company

Four undocumented immigrants were arrested at a trucking company premises in Riverhorse Valley in Durban on Friday afternoon when law enforcement officials paid the business an unannounced visit.

According to a statement by the South African Police Service (SAPS) KwaZulu-Natal, the operation was conducted by the Ethekwini District SAPS in collaboration with Metro, Customs, Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA), Department of Labour and Department of Home Affairs.

The operation followed up on information of the employment of undocumented persons working at the truck centre, which is suspected of violating the Immigration Act and the Labour Relations Act.

The police raided the business premises and found four undocumented persons aged between 30 and 40, who were employed as mechanics and drivers.

The manager of the business, a 45-year-old man, was also arrested for the employment of undocumented persons.

The suspects were taken to the Greenwood Park police station for processing and will appear in court soon.
