runaway truck knysna n2

Three people and two horses have been injured when a runaway truck collided with six other vehicles on the N2 between the George Rex Drive and Old Toll Road intersections in Knysna on Tuesday afternoon.

A Mercedes Benz articulated truck from Coca-Cola apparently lost brakes and collided with several vehicles on the N2 arriving into Knysna from Plettenberg Bay.

Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies indicated that “emergency personnel are currently on the scene”.

Spies said that three people sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

“Reports available also indicate that two horses in a trailer of a Volkswagen Amarok at the time of the accident are also receiving attention,” Spies said.

“The N2 remains closed while the cargo of the delivery vehicle is being loaded onto another vehicle.”

Local vets have also been dispatched to the scene to help deal with the horses, while another transport vehicle for the horses was sent from George.

“The cause of the accident is yet to be established. A reckless and negligent driving docket was opened.”
