Truck driver arrested for smuggling R600 000 worth heroin and alcohol into SA

A Mozambican truck driver has been arrested after being found in possession of heroin and sealed alcohol boxes at a roadblock in Komatipoort.

Francisco Langa (31) allegedly smuggled the contraband from Mozambique into the country and was on his way to Johannesburg.

Langa was arrested during a roadblock at Komatipoort port of entry on Thursday, 23 April 2020.

Upon the search of his truck, four packets laden with heroin and a number of sealed boxes of Gordon London Dry Gin and box of Smirnoff 1818 to the value of R16 400 were found hidden inside the truck.

Langa appeared in Komatipoort Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 24 April 2020 facing charges related to smuggling, dealing in drugs and contravening the COVID-19 lockdown regulations. He was remanded in custody.

He is expected back at the same court on Tuesday, 28 April 2020.
