Truck Driver brutally attacked after stopping at a stop sign in Carolina

A truck driver from a Mabhoko Logistics, based in Belfast has been seriously injured after he got attacked by three robbers while waiting for his turn to go at the R36/R33 intersection in Carolina, Mpumalanga last night.

It’s alleged that the driver stopped on the stop sign at the notorious R36/R33 intersection around 19h00 on Friday evening. As he waited for his turn to proceed, three robbers jumped into his truck and tried to hijack him.

The truck switched off and when they tried to restart it they failed because the battery terminals were loose. They didn’t believe the driver’s explanation of why it couldn’t start and started assaulting him.

He said they used a hammer and a knife to assault him while they were also trying to to tie his neck with seat belt.

When they saw another truck approaching, they took his belongings and fled the scene.

“I saw three guys running away from the truck and knew something was wrong ” said a Legend Logistics truck driver who saw the fleeing robbers.

He said he stopped to investigate and found the robbery victim with a big cut on the forehead and his clothes full of blood.

“I immediately called his company who called the ambulance to fetch the injured trucker,” he said.

The trucker sustained a big cut on the forehead and stab wounds on the leg. He has since been discharged from hospital.

According to information from the victim’s workmates at Mabhoko Logistics, this driver is the fifth victim from their company to be robbed at this place.
