Sithulile Siyabonga Zulu, the truck driver behind a side tipper truck that ploughed into 46 vehicles on the M41 just before the M4 intersection in Umhlanga Ridge has appeared in the Durban magistrate’s court.
Zulu, who is 22-years-old, was charged with reckless and negligent driving and failure to comply with the duties of a driver following an accident.
It’s alleged that Zulu lost control of his fully laden truck and crashed into 46 vehicles during Monday’s morning peak traffic.
He left a trail of destruction with some vehicles lying on top of others.
National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said the matter was remanded to March 15 for bail information.
Zulu fled the scene after the truck he was driving ploughed into 46 vehicles before coming to a rest on the side of the road at 8am during peak traffic on Monday morning.
He later handed himself over to police on Monday night.
The bail hearing for the M41 truck driver, Sithulile Zulu has been scheduled for 15 March 2023 to give investigators time to confirm his address, to check if the suspect has any prior criminal record and if his driver's license is valid. pic.twitter.com/bPL7TQPqxy
