Truck Driver in M41 Umhlanga 46-Vehicle Pile-up Crash Appears in Court

Sithulile Siyabonga Zulu, the truck driver behind a side tipper truck that ploughed into 46 vehicles on the M41 just before the M4 intersection in Umhlanga Ridge has appeared in the Durban magistrate’s court.

Zulu, who is 22-years-old, was charged with reckless and negligent driving and failure to comply with the duties of a driver following an accident.

It’s alleged that Zulu lost control of his fully laden truck and crashed into 46 vehicles during Monday’s morning peak traffic.

He left a trail of destruction with some vehicles lying on top of others.

National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said the matter was remanded to March 15 for bail information.

Zulu fled the scene after the truck he was driving ploughed into 46 vehicles before coming to a rest on the side of the road at 8am during peak traffic on Monday morning.

He later handed himself over to police on Monday night.
