Truck Driver Shot, Another forced to Tip Load On the Road, Says Police

A truck driver was shot in KwaZulu Natal at the beginning of the national shutdown on Monday morning.

The provincial commissioner, Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, said the driver was on his way to Mozambique when the shooting occurred.

Mkhwanazi said the police could not conclusively say it was related to the national shutdown.

“There was a shooting incident to a truck driver, a truck that was travelling towards Mozambique, we do not know whether it is part of the protest, it is a criminality that is happening there,” Mkhwanazi said.

The truck driver survived the shooting.

In another incident, a truck driver was allegedly forced to block the N17 with his side tipper truck by alleged EFF protesters.

The incident took place between Carolina and Warburton at the Chrissiesmeer turnoff.

The Eswatini registered truck was en route to the Oshoek border post when the incident happened.
