Two arrested for possession of 'stolen' chrome in Limpopo

Police in Polokwane arrested two men for possession of suspected stolen minerals on Sunday.

The Provincial Organised Crime Unit was on duty when they noticed a white Hino Tipper truck on R37 road near Machakaneng village that was believed to be loaded with stolen metals.

After intercepting the truck, the suspect was arrested for possessing and transporting suspected stolen minerals (Chrome), as they were unable to produce the necessary permits for transportation.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the provincial police spokesperson, stated that the confiscated Hino Tipper truck was loaded with stolen minerals valued at R1 300 000.00 and chrome valued at approximately R150 000.00.

The suspect is expected to appear before Mecklenburg policing area soon, and investigations by the police are ongoing.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, praised the Organised Crime Unit for their vigilance and dedication, resulting in the arrest of one suspect and the confiscation of the stolen minerals.
