Two Killed as Minibus Taxi T-bones Turning Truck on N1 at Hanover

Hanover, Northern Cape – A fatal accident on the N1 in Hanover has left two people dead and several others seriously injured.

The incident occurred on Friday morning around 03h00 when a taxi collided with an articulated truck in T-bone fashion.

According to reports, the truck was exiting a truck stop and attempting to join the N1 when the taxi crashed into the second trailer of the superlink combination.

The impact of the collision was devastating, and two passengers in the taxi died on the spot.

The identities of the deceased have not been released, pending notification of their families. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and the injured passengers were immediately taken to the nearby hospital for treatment.

The truck driver, who was not injured in the crash is reportedly cooperating with authorities in their investigation of the incident.

The cause of the accident has not been established yet, and authorities are urging witnesses to come forward with any information that may assist in their investigation.

The accident comes just two weeks after five people died after their car collided with a truck which was turning to join the N1 highway between Leeu Gamka and Beaufort West.

This is yet another reminder of the need for drivers to exercise caution when turning onto a busy highway.
