Several people are feared dead after a gas tanker explosion on Hospital Road in Boksburg engulfed onlookers and the nearby OR Tambo Hospital on Saturday morning.
According to videos seen by SA Trucker, the gas tanker truck crashed into the low bridge and exploded moments later.
Kyle van Reenen, the Emer-G-Med spokesperson, said several people have died, with many more critically injured.
The explosion happened on Hospital Road, a few metres from OR Tambo Memorial Hospital.
The truck was reportedly carrying LP Gas.
The OR Tambo Hospital is on fire, with patients scrambling to safety.
Three or four cars are also said to have been burned in the explosion.
Videos and photos shared on social media show bodies lying on the ground and severely burnt people trying to get medical help.

Paramedics and multiple emergency service agencies are currently at the scene on Railway Street in Boksburg.
“At this stage we can confirm there have been multiple people left with critical injuries and several fatalities,” said Kyle van Reenen, Emer-G-Med spokesperson.
