Truck bus crash

More than 31 people miraculously escaped death when they were caught up in crash where a truck fell on a bus crushing half of it under it’s container on Thursday morning in Durban.

According to ALS Paramedics, sixteen people were injured in the accident.

The horrific crash occurred just after 7 AM on Old Dutch Road near the Engen Garage at the Durban Market.

Garrith Jamieson, a spokesperson for ALS Paramedics Medical Services, reported, “ALS Paramedics arrived at the scene to find a scene of total carnage. A fully loaded truck had somehow lost control and collided with a bus and two taxis.”

“Paramedics immediately established a triage system and called for additional ambulances, Advanced Life Support Paramedics, and Rescue Units,” he added.

Jamieson also mentioned that one passenger from the rear of the bus was severely trapped in the wreckage.

“Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilize the patient while the Durban Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to attempt a rescue,” Jamieson said.

“After being freed, the man was carefully extricated onto the top of the truck and then lowered down to the awaiting ambulance.”

Approximately 15 other patients sustained moderate to serious injuries and received stabilization at the scene before being transported to various hospitals in Durban for further treatment.
