Update: Six killed in horrific crash on R61 near Port Edward FB IMG 1665418350529

Six people have been killed and five others injured in a horrific multi-vehicle crash on the R61 at Umtamvuna Bridge near Port Edward in the KZN south coast.

Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service arrived at the scene to find that a truck, two bakkies and a car had been involved in a collision.

One bakkie and the car had been involved in a severe head on collision resulting in the occupants to become entrapped.

Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and discovered that three people had sustained critical injuries of which one was a child approximately 10 years old.

Another two people including a 4-year-old child had sustained serious injuries.

The patients were treated on scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment.

Sadly six people including a child, sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to their injuries before emergency services arrived.

The R61 highway was closed on both directions to enable authorities to comb for evidence.

The cause of the collision is not known, but authorities are investigating.
