Bikers shoot at robbers and foil hijacking at Warner Beach

Hijackers who targeted an unsuspecting motorist for his Toyota Fortuner were treated with the same surprise they had for their victims when they were fired at by some bikers who witnessed their evil operation in Warner Beach near Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

It was meant to be easy prey but armed bikers turned tables on them shooting and injuring one of them.

CCTV footage of the attempted hijacking shows a white Toyota Fortuner parking off on Nelson Palmer road before a white Mercedes Benz pulls up next to it.

Armed men disembark from the Mercedes Benz and run straight to the Fortuner. One pulls out the driver while three others approach the left hand side of the vehicle and force marches two people out.

A Metro Police van passes by on Kingsway Road, a few metres from the scene, but does not notice the robbery in progress.

After everyone is removed from the vehicle, the suspects try to drive off but some onlookers who witnessed the whole ordeal, start shooting at the suspects.

The hijacker loses control of the vehicle and crashes into a pole across the road.

Seeing danger, one of the hijackers jumps out of the Fortuner and speeds towards the getaway Mercedes Benz. The driver, meanwhile, struggles to stand after he abandons the vehicle looking as if he had been injured.

The onlookers – not visible in the video, who turned out to be part of a biker gang, keeps firing at the hijacker. Bullets can be seen hitting the ground very close to the suspect as he crawls to the getaway car.

From the getaway car, comes out a suspect with an AK47 and he starts shooting randomly to protect his accomplice underfire from the bikers.

The suspect eventually makes it into the getaway car and it speeds off.

According to a statement from the Community Crime Prevention Community Amanzimtoti (CCPO) one person was injured in the incident.
