Watch: N1 remains closed, several trucks stoned overnight in Winburg protest

Several trucks and cars were stoned and damaged on the N1 at Winburg during a violent protest by community members on Wednesday night.

SA Trucker received warnings of the strike action affecting the N1 route and quickly alerted transporters using the route.

Road were blocked by stones and burning tyres before SAPS arrived on the scene.

Truckers who were unfortunate to not get the early warnings were severely affected as some had their trucks stoned and badly damaged.

SA Trucker did not receive any reports of truck drivers being injured in the protests.

This morning, 11 August 2022, Winburg SAPS confirmed that the N1 is still closed due to ongoing community protest.

Transporters are advised to warn their truckers approaching the area to stay clear of it.

Winburg N1 alternative routes

Coming down from Gauteng, at Ventersburg take R70 to Virginia then R30 to Bloemfontein via Theunissen and Brandfort

Going towards Gauteng, take reverse direction of the above route.

The N5 between Senekal and Winburg to Theunissen is open to traffic.
