Watch: Police Officers Attacked in Edenpark, Second Incident in a Week

Edenpark – In a shocking turn of events, police officers from Eden Park police station in Gauteng found themselves under attack by community members for the second time in just one week.

The incident occurred during a routine patrol on Thursday, October 12, 2023, as officers attempted to investigate a suspicious vehicle.

According to Brigadier Brenda Muridili, the SAPS spokesperson, “Police officers from Eden park police station were on routine patrols when they noticed a car that looked suspicious. It is alleged that as the police stopped the car, community members who were at a nearby park started to attack the police. The members had to fire warning shots to protect themselves from community members who were attacking them.”

This shocking event has raised serious concerns about the safety of law enforcement officers in the area.

Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, the Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, condemned the attack in the strongest terms.

In response to the incident, he said, “The violent behaviour of some of the community of Edenpark and the lack of respect towards the police will not be tolerated. All those who were involved in the attack on the police must be arrested and brought to justice.”

This incident followed another attack on the Edenpark police station just a week prior, where the Station Commander was injured while responding to an assault case.

The suspect in that case has been arrested and denied bail.

“The Provincial Commissioner is calling for perpetrators to be arrested immediately as this behaviour towards law enforcement officers cannot be tolerated,” added Lieutenant General Mawela.

A case of assault and attack on police has been officially opened at the Edenpark police station for investigation.

The police will be working tirelessly to identify and bring to justice those responsible for these heinous acts against the officers who are tasked with upholding the law and maintaining the safety of the community.
