Unlike in the majority of videos we see on social media, a trucker rushed to help another trucker whose trailer had caught fire going downhill on N1 near Louis Trichardt on Monday afternoon.
The man’s action was captured by his assistant who started filming moments before arriving at the scene.
“Seeing that there was a chance to save the truck from the burning trailer, I quickly pulled down my handbrake and rushed to help,” said the trucker speaking to SA Trucker.
He said he was relieved to see the truck driver was not hurt, “yesterday two truck drivers died in accidents where they burned to death so I just thought I should not let this happen in my face,” he said.
The truckers successfully saved the front piece and the truck from the inferno.
The cause of the fire on the trailer is suspected to be brake malfunction.
SA Trucker reported about two accidents where drivers lost their lives on Sunday.
The first accident occurred on Kapiri Ngozi, Zambia, involving three trucks, one truck driver was killed.
In the second accident, also involving three trucks, a tanker truck driver was burned to death after colliding with another tanker and a tipper truck.
