The R31 highway between Barkley West and Postmasburg is closed near Koopmansfontein following a serious head-on crash between two side tipper trucks.
Both trucks caught fire after colliding. Truckers who arrived at the scene moments after the crash said that it occurred between Danielskuil turn-off and Delportshoop near Koopmansfontein.
The road is completely blocked by the burned-out trucks.
It could not be immediately verified if the truck drivers escaped with their lives.
Just last week, a truck driver lost his life after colliding with another truck not far from the current scene of the accident.
For a long time, motorists have complained about the state of this stretch of road but not much has been done to fix it. The road is very narrow for trucks and it’s filled with potholes.
