beer truck looting mabopane highway

After the alcohol ban made an unpopular return at the beginning of July, a ‘miracle’ has happened for the people on the R566 Mabopane Highway near Pretoria. A truck lost its load of the scarce drink and locals pounced, even breaking the trailer to reach some beers which were still safely stacked on the trailer.

The sale of alcohol was prohibited to ease pressure on hospitals after alcohol-related incidents were putting more pressure on the already strained hospitals in the country.

So when a truck full of booze acted up in front of the thirsty public, looting was inevitable.

According to the truck driver, the load shifted but the trailer curtain successfully held it back. He then stopped and waited for help.

He said that motorists who smelled the beer as they passed, stopped and in no time there was plenty of them.

The driver said that eventually the motorists cut open the trailer curtain and looted all the beer.

Videos of the frenzy were awash on social media immediately after the incident yesterday.
