Alleged Illegal U-turn by Taxi Leads to Fatal Crash with Truck on R42 IMG 20231104 WA0179

Three people have been killed after the minibus taxi they were travelling in collided with a truck on the R42 at the Kaydale turnoff in front of Kanana City’s entrance outside Nigel.

It’s alleged that the taxi made an illegal U-turn in front of the oncoming truck leading to the fatal collision.

Upon collision, the taxi rolled and ended up on its roof before bursting into flames.

Tragically, three passengers were unable to escape the inferno and lost their lives, as they were trapped in the back seat of the taxi.

At least five other passengers, together with the driver, were flung from the taxi through the windows and managed to escape the flames.

Staff of the trucking company near the scene ran with fire extinguishers and started to put the fire out.

Later, emergency services, police and the fire brigade arrived and took over the scene, assisting the injured and taking control of traffic regulation.

A horrified bystander described the scene, saying, “It was horrific! I heard the victims scream while they were trapped in the fire hell.”
