The N2 highway is closed at the Gordon’s Bay end through Sir Lowry’s Pass due to a petrol tanker fire, EMR Private Ambulance has reported.
Paramedics at the scene reported that the tanker itself was empty but the horse was alight raising fears that the tanker could explode.
The tanker trucker reportedly made it out safely but paramedics were attending to two patients from a sedan which collided with the tanker truck.
The relevant emergency respondent teams are further in attendance.
Traffic officials are on hand on both ends to direct traffic through the R44 to Kleinmond.
Motorists are urged to exercise patience and caution if travelling on the route.
