durban cbd crash

Two people have been killed and two others critically injured in a horrific truck accident on Pine Street and Gardiner Street in Durban CBD in the early hours of this morning.

According to Advanced Life Support Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the incident occurred just before 03:00 on Sunday morning. “ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived on the scene to find total carnage after a truck and a private passenger vehicle had collided in the intersection before the truck overturned.”

Advanced Life Support Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that two males, believed to be in their thirties, had sustained major injuries, and there was nothing more paramedics could do for them, and they were both declared deceased on the scene.

“One person was found to be severely entrapped in his vehicle, and Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man in the vehicle while the Durban Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to try and extricate the patient. Once freed, the man was loaded into an awaiting ambulance and rushed to a nearby Durban Hospital for the urgent care that he required,” said Jamieson.

Jamieson said one other person sustained serious injuries and was stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby Durban Hospital for the further treatment that he required.

“At this stage, the events leading up to the accident are unknown, however, SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further,” said Jamieson.
