The N3 freeway has been closed at Van Reenen Pass on both directions due to a fatal accident involving 2 trucks and a car that occurred earlier on Sunday afternoon.
According to KZN EMS, one person died and three were injured in the multi-vehicle crash on the N3, between Tugela Plaza and Van Reenen’s Pass, in the northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Spokesperson for the KZN EMS, Robert McKenzie said three people were critically injured and treated at the scene before transported to the hospital.
N3 Toll Concession tweeted that the total road closure was done to facilitate recovery of the wreckages on the northbound lanes.
Traffic is heavily backed on Van Reenen Pass on the southbound lanes while northbound traffic has is being held at Tugela toll gate.

Motorists stuck in the traffic told SA Trucker they have not moved an inch for the over three hours.
Motorists are advised to avoid the scene and use alternatives if possible.
