Off-duty trucker found dead, burned in his car boot in PE

A truck driver has been found dead and his body burnt beyond recognition in his car which he used as an e-hailing vehicle on Tuesday.

The truck driver (name supplied to SA Trucker) was allegedly hijacked on Monday evening. His friends and family launched a frantic search but could not find him until the next day.

The charred remains of his body were found in his Toyota Etios which he used as an e-hailing when he was off from trucking.

A family member who asked to remain anonymous told SA Trucker that the truck driver was robbed, shot dead and his body burned together with his car at Kwazakhele in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).

Witnesses at the scene said the car was bullet-riddled.

The reason for the gruesome attack on the driver is not known, however, attacks on e-hailing vehicles in the town have been on the rise.

Police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge says the motive is not known.

He says the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear and the investigation continues.
