Severely injured Durban truck driver entrapped for 2 hours after crash

Durban – A 65-year-old truck driver is in a serious condition after he was injured when his truck crashed into a tree in Durban.

The victim was entrapped in his truck for close to two hours in the M1 Higginson Highway crash on Tuesday morning.

Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene just after 11am to find a single truck had collided with a tree.

The driver was severely entrapped in the wreckage and immediately Durban Fire Department was dispatched to assist as well as Advanced Life Support Paramedics.

Due to the severity of the mans injuries the Lenmed 1 Aeromedical Helicopter was activated to assist with rapid transportation once the man was freed.

The rescue took approximately two hours to free the man.

Once freed the patient was then flown to the Lenmed Ethekweni Hospital for the further care he urgently required.

Traffic was severely affected on the East Bound carriage way.

At this stage the events leading up to the single vehicle crash is unknown however SAPS were on scene and will be investigating.
