A truck driver, his assistant and a warehouse owner have appeared in Nebo magistrate court after reporting a false hijacking and robbery of building and fencing materials.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the incident occurred on Saturday 18 March 2023, when the driver and crew claimed that their truck was hijacked and the cargo they were transporting from Benoni, Gauteng province to Steelpoort outside Burgersfort in Sekhukhune was stolen.

Following the case of truck hijacking that was opened at Jane Furse Police Station on Saturday, members of the Provincial Organized Crime and the National Crime Intelligence Units, assisted by the Local Criminal Center, conducted a snap operation.

“On Tuesday 21 March 2023, members of this team operationalized the information received, which led them to a warehouse in Jane Furse owned by a foreign national where the stolen materials were recovered,” said Mojapelo.

The owner of the warehouse was arrested on the spot, and the other two suspects were arrested at separate locations.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has congratulated the team for a well-coordinated operation that led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen properties.

“This success is a manifestation of the importance of coordination that has to take place among various environments that are involved in fighting crime,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The three suspects, identified as Shadrack Thobejane aged 37, Calvin Muodzo aged 43, and Shah Jamal Mohammad aged 29, were remanded in custody until Tuesday 28 March 2024, for further police investigations.
