Kranspoort Pass truck crash

A truck driver has been killed after he lost control of his truck which was transporting sulphuric acid and crashed on the N11 at Kranspoort Pass between Groblersdal and Middleburg.

The accident happened just before 17h00 on Saturday afternoon at the infamous last curve, after which the truck caught fire sending thick fumes and chemical gases into the air.

The N11 was closed for hours as authorities cleaned up the hazardous spillage all over the road. By Sunday morning, the scene had been cleared and traffic was beginning to flow again.

The cause of the crash is not known at this stage.
