N3 peter brown truck accident

A truck driver has been killed in an accident on the N3 southbound just after the Peter Brown bridge.

Two other people suffered minor injuries.

Zinhle Mngomezulu, KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate Spokesperson, said preliminary information from the scene shows that a crossborder truck suffered axle failure while on the moving causing it to crash.

Mngomezulu said other vehicles collided into the truck, entrapping the crossborder driver under the rubble.

The driver died at the scene.

Mngomezulu said two trucks, a minibus taxi and a light motor vehicle were involved in the accident.

Mngomezulu said one of the trucks was carrying a large load of cement which spilled on the road.

Pictures of the scene shows several 1 tonne bags sprewn all over the road.

The route was closed and motorists have been advised to find alternative routes as the clean-up process is likely going to take a long time.

The fatal crash is the third big accident in this area in the month of June. Less than 100m after the latest scene, 16 people died in a pile-up crash involving a minibus taxi, a truck and other vehicles.

A concerned trucker penned an article of how construction zones have become kill zones on the N3 urging motorists to be extra cautious.
