Truck driver killed on Nico Malan pass (R67) R67

A truck driver has been killed in an accident on the R67 in the Eastern Cape. Provincial Traffic Deputy Director Charles Bramwell says the man last control of his heavy duty vehicle on the Nico Malan pass on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred between the towns of Seymour and Whittlesea.

The truck was transporting bricks from Limpopo and Bramwell says they’re looking into the possibility that the accident was caused by brake failure.

He says the deceased tried to jump out the truck but it rode over him before plunging over the edge of the pass.

The Nico Malan was still closed a short while ago as emergency service attempt to retrieve the heavy duty vehicle.

The alternative route is the N6 through Stutterheim and Cathcart.
