A truck driver has been burned to death following a head-on crash between a tanker truck and another truck pulling a tautliner on the N1 at Koppies off ramp.
According to SAPS the accident happened at about 06h00 on Friday morning.
SA Trucker posted videos of the accident earlier and reported that the road was completely blocked as the vehicles burned in the middle of the road.
In a media statement, police adviced motorists to take alternative routes following the fiery accident on the N1.
“The road is totally closed and traffic heading North is diverted at Kroonstad at the off ramp towards Heilbron Koppies road,” read part of of the statement.
Traffic heading to South is diverted before Vaal Toll Plaza via Vredefort.
“One truck driver has burnt to death while another truck driver has already been taken to one of the hospitals in Kroonstad.”
Investigation on the scene will reveal the cause of the accident.
A culpable homicide case will be opened for further investigation.
