The infamous pothole on the R545 between Bethal and Kreel has struck again leaving a 67-year-old truck driver seriously injured.
Unconfirmed social media reports suggest that at least 6 crashes have been reported to have been caused by this big pothole. In a video sent to SA Trucker, two trucks involved in separate accidents at the same place can be seen on either side of the road.
It’s alleged that the senior trucker lost control after hitting the pothole and veered off the road where he collided with some trees and left him entrapped in his cab.
“ER24 paramedics were on the scene at 12:30 on Friday afternoon along with the Fire and Traffic Departments, SAPS and the Provincial EMS.”

“The man was found entrapped in the cab of the truck.”
“Due to the challenges of heavy vehicle rescues, the local Fire Department struggled to extract the man. Once he was free ER24 was able to make a proper assessment and found that he’d suffered significant injuries to his lower extremities. The patient was treated with Advanced Life Support interventions and transported to Bethal Provincial Hospital for further care,” reported ER24.
SAPS were on the scene for further investigations.
