Schoemanskloof Crash 7 september 2023

One of the truck drivers in the serious collision on the N4 at Schoemanskloof earlier on Thursday morning had to be airlifted after he sustained serious injures in the crash.

Two trucks were involved in a side-swipe collision as they navigated a curve.

The driver on the inner side of the curve found himself in harm’s way as his truck collided with the trailer of the other truck, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

According to Martin Jeffrey of Emer-G-Med, the injured driver had to be airlifted to safety after suffering a serious injury to his right hand.

He was promptly transported to Rob Ferreira Hospital for medical attention, while fortunately, the other driver emerged from the collision unscathed even though his truck fell sideways.

Solange Soares, the spokesperson for TRACN4, reported that the Montrose interchange from Mbombela had to be temporarily closed off as a result of the incident. The precise cause of the accident remains under investigation.

As a precautionary measure, motorists were advised to consider an alternate route, utilizing the N4 via Elands Valley, while the necessary response and investigations continued.
