Tshwane Metro Police arrested for truck hijacking

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department’s (EMPD )CLU unit has successfully apprehended three suspects, including two Tshwane Metro Police Department Officers, suspected of being part of a truck hijacking syndicate operating on the R21 highway in Gauteng.

The operation began when a vigilant EMPD officer noticed a truck stopped along the R21, seemingly accosted by a suspicious grey BMW 3 series.

The BMW, conspicuously lacking police markings and equipped with white lights, immediately raised red flags.

Acting on their instincts, the officers decided to conduct a vehicle enquiry check on the BMW, which revealed that it had been reported as stolen.

This discovery heightened their suspicions.

As the EMPD officers were engaging with the occupants of the BMW, who were later identified as corrupt TMPD officers, the truck’s driver, believed to be the third suspect, accelerated past them and sped away.

A high-speed pursuit ensued, culminating in the BMW being abandoned along the R21 Southbound, just before the R562 off-ramp.

Undeterred, EMPD officers pursued the fleeing suspect on foot, eventually apprehending them in a nearby bush with the assistance of GDOCS and SAPS helicopters.

Preliminary reports suggest that the truck’s driver had been forcibly abducted and later dumped in the Bapsfontein area.

He was transported to Olifantsfontein SAPS to file a formal case.

The arrested individuals now face serious charges, including truck hijacking and possession of suspected stolen goods.

They are currently in custody at Olifantsfontein SAPS, awaiting further legal proceedings.
