N3 bus and truck crash at Montrose

Four people have tragically lost their lives in a collision between two trucks and a bus on the N3 freeway at Montrose in the Free State.

The accident happened at approximately o3:40 AM on Tuesday, 12 September.

The accident led to a lengthy closure of the N3 freeway on both directions.

According to preliminary reports, a truck collided into the back of a bus and caught fire then another truck came and crashed onto the two vehicles.

Free State police spokesperson, Mmako Mophiring, said that three of the victims tragically passed away at the scene.

The casualties include the truck driver and two bus passengers.

Regrettably, another victim succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Moreover, nine additional passengers have been hospitalized for medical attention.

The exact cause of this heart-wrenching accident remains unknown.

The authorities are actively probing the incident, with a case of culpable homicide currently under investigation.

Meanwhile, the N3TC said that recovery was in progress and contra-flow has been implemented on the Johannesburg-bound lanes. Traffic is moving past the scene.
