Jacobs chemical factory fire

Durban – A chemical factory on Balfour road in Jacobs has been razed to the ground by a massive fire which broke out in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Rowan Scandroglio said his team arrived at the scene to find the whole factory well alight.

The factory is believed to manufacture resin which is a highly flammable substance.

Scandroglio says the cause of the fire is unknown, and no injuries have been reported.

“Paramedics together with the eThekwini Fire Department and SAPS are currently at the scene of a large factory fire on Balfour Road in the Jacobs area. The fire started a few minutes ago and the emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene. There are multiple fire-fighters and water tankers trying to put out the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.” he said at the time.

At the time of writing, the factory was still smouldering with a huge cloud of smoke hovering above.
