The N3 freeway was closed off to traffic on Sunday night after a serious accident involving three trucks and subsequent looting of trucks stuck at the scene.
N3TC sent out a warning to road users advising them to avoid the N3 Toll Route in the vicinity of Mooi River until further notice.
Initial reports suggested that a truck broke down on the N3 northbound just before Mooi River toll gate. Another truck then came and crashed into it and caught fire.
The load from the broken down truck spilled onto the roadway on impact. Looters then pounced on the load.
The looters reportedly then started stealing from other trucks stuck on the scene.
Law enforcement and emergency services are on the scene and making every attempt to bring the situation under control.

Both north and south bound lanes in this area are affected by the crash.
