The N3 southbound is closed between the Peter Brown bridge and Liberty Mall following a serious pile-up crash involving two trucks and two light vehicles.
According to SA Truckers on the scene, the vehicles collided with the light vehicles in between the trucks and all caught fire.
The accident happened at a stretch where construction is taking place and the lane sizes have been reduced.
One SA Trucker who has been held up at the scene from 03h00 this morning said, initially both side of the freeway were affected but the northbound lanes have since been reopened.
SA Trucker has, so far in the month of May, published two other articles of serious crashes on the same spot.

The light vehicles have been completely burned out while the fire was extinguished before engulfing the trucks.
It was not immediately clear if there were any fatalities.
Light vehicle motorists driving towards Durban are advised to use alternatives to help ease traffic which is heavily backed at the moment.
The cause of the crash is not known at this stage.
