Truck driving in South Africa is one of most dangerous jobs one can get. Working conditions and salaries in the majority of companies are very poor which forces the truck drivers to overwork in a bid to increase their earnings.

Truck accidents are a daily occurrence because of these conditions. It becomes dangerous even for a driver who is working under perfect conditions as they can be involved in a crash with the overworked and fatigued driver.

If one looks at the number of single truck accidents on our highways they can easily notice that fatigue is the biggest cause.

It happens, sometimes, that single vehicle accidents are caused by other reasons including reckless driving, overspeeding, use of cellphones while driving and others.

In the trucking community, it’s very easy to blame fatigue for every single truck accident without thinking twice.

This is exhibited in the video below, in which a truck left the road on the R59 just after the N1 towards Parys in the Free State.

The cause of the accident is not known as investigations are ongoing but the narrator can be heard (transated from Shona) encouraging other truckers to rest if they are tired to avoid crashes.

Information reaching SA Trucker suggest that the trucker was seriously injured.
