Watch: Truck driver films himself doing 128km/h down Van Reenen Pass on N3

A video of a truck clocking 128km/h has surfaced on social media, causing a stir among the trucking community.

The footage shows a truck driver cruising down the N3 at Van Reenen Pass, with his camera focused on the dashboard.

The digital display read a startling 128km/h, a whopping 48km/h over the speed limit for that particular stretch of road.

As if to mock the rules and consequences of his actions and with a hint of arrogance in his voice, the driver can be heard repeatedly saying (translated from isizulu) “Never, you won’t catch me,” purpotedly talking to the other driver he was racing with.

The Van Reenen Pass is renowned for its perilous nature. The long slope and numerous sharp turns makes it a treacherous route, especially for large trucks.

Over the years, several accidents have occurred due to truck drivers failing to brake in time, leading to devastating crashes and loss of life.

The video calls for debate on the type of truck drivers we have on our roads.

It’s shocking that a professional truck driver blatantly disregards his safety and others on the road.
