WATCH: Truck driver seriously injured in two truck crash on N14

A truck driver was left seriously injured when his tipper truck collided with a tanker truck which had veered onto his path on N14 at Muldersdrift offramp in Krugersdorp.

The accident caused heavy traffic delays on Thursday, 3 September as both trucks blocked the lanes from Muldersdrift side.

Reports from the scene suggest that the driver of the tanker lost control of the truck and it veered off its lane crashing through the middle barrier. It then collided with a tipper truck going towards the opposite direction.

Netcare 911, the Krugersdorp Fire Department and other rescue services responded and arrived on the scene a short while later.

“The driver of the tanker truck sustained moderate injuries and was treated on scene before being transported by a private ambulance to hospital for further treatment,” stated Shawn Herbst, Netcare 911 Media Liaison Officer.

The fire department used hydraulic tools to free the driver of the tipper truck from the wreckage.

After being stabilised and owing to the serious nature of his injuries, a Netcare 911 helicopter airlifted him to a hospital for further treatment.

It is not known yet what caused the tanker driver to lose control of the truck.
