Mkhondo Municipality Imposes Night-time Ban on Trucks, Effective 10 PM to 5 AM

Trucks will not be allowed to drive through Mkhondo (Piet Retief) between 10 PM and 5 AM starting from Monday, October 17, 2023.

The ban, along a new time schedule for trucks passing through Church Street on the N2, are aimed at enhancing traffic management and addressing concerns of local residents.

“The decision, which restricts truck traffic during certain hours, is part of a broader effort to ensure the well-being and safety of the community,” said Mkhondo Municipality in a statement.

New Truck Time Schedule

Effective from Monday, October 17, 2023, the following time slots for truck traffic on Church Street (N2) will be in effect:

Monday to Friday:

Trucks are prohibited to use Church Street from 07:00 AM to 08:00 AM to manage the morning rush.

A second restriction will be in place from 13:00 PM to 14:00 PM to manage the afternoon rush.

Additionally, a restriction will be enforced from 16:00 to 18:00 during the evening hours.

Saturday:

On Saturdays, trucks will be prohibited from entering the town between 11:00 AM and 13:00 PM.

Sunday:

On Sundays, trucks will generally be allowed to flow freely. However, in exceptional cases or if the need arises, further communications will be shared.

Prohibition of Trucks after 10 PM

In a bid to minimize disturbances to residents during nighttime hours, the municipality has imposed a strict prohibition on truck traffic.

Trucks will not be permitted to enter or travel within the town between the hours of 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM.

This measure will be vigorously enforced to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.

Implementation and Enforcement

The implementation of the new time schedule and the enforcement of these regulations will be a collaborative effort between the municipality’s traffic department and local law enforcement agencies.

The municipality is committed to ensuring that these measures are effective and that traffic management on Church Street (N2) is improved.
