Traffic is at a standstill on the N3 on both directions at Ashburton after a paraffin tanker truck collised with another truck and caught fire blocking both carriageways in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport cautioned motorists to delay their travel arrangements following the closure of the N3 freeway.
There is currently a huge congestion in all routes between Pietermaritzburg and Durban.
The congestion has now spilled over to alternative routes such as R103 and R603.
