truck driver killed house robbery

A Durban truck driver was shot and killed during a house robbery in Seaview, south of Durban on Tuesday night.

KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele confirmed the fatal shooting on Malton road just behind Southway Mall.

“Three armed men entered the home through an unlocked door and demanded cellphones and cash from the victims,” she said.

“One of the victims, a male adult was shot in the chest during the robbery, he died on the scene,” added Mbele.

SA Trucker spoke to the man’s brother who is also a truck driver in Durban.

“I was on the phone with him when I heard a sound of the door being kicked open,” said the brother who has refused to be named.

“He told me not to drop the call as some robbers had entered into the house,”

He said he heard the robbers demanding cash and cellphones from the people in the house.

“I heard my brother beg for his life before one gunshot went off,” the heartbroken brother continued.

After the shot, the man said he could hear the robbers arguing why the other one shot the victim.

“I prayed if he was indeed shot, that he may live but it was not to be, his neighbour called me just moments after and broke the news to me,” the brother said, struggling to hold back his tears.

The deceased was employed by ZimBulk in Pietermaritzburg.

SA Trucker has been asked not to release the deceased’s name.

According to Mbele, the gunmen fled the scene in an unknown getaway vehicle.

No arrests have been made.
