Sadc truckers using baboons to drive

A 59-year-old truck driver, Musa, has shared a story that seems stranger than fiction. With a weary expression etched on his face, Musa recounts the bizarre events that has unfolded in his life.

He has been a truck driver for over two decades, crisscrossing the borders of South Africa and several neighbouring countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

He built a reputation as a reliable driver, always delivering his cargo on time. But as he explained, it wasn’t his driving skills alone that earned him that reputation.

Driven by peer pressure from fellow cross-border truck drivers, Musa had succumbed to the temptation of using muthi, a traditional African medicine, to aid his journeys.

It was said to provide supernatural assistance and bring good fortune to those who possessed it.

His workmates had advised him to visit a sangoma in Malawi, where they had acquired their own mystical helpers, baboons.

Filled with curiosity and longing to gain an edge in his profession, Musa embarked on a journey to Malawi.

After a long and arduous search, he found the sangoma, who presented him with a small bottle containing the potent muthi.

According to the sangoma’s instructions, Musa needed to place the bottle on his truck’s dashboard before going to sleep.

When he woke up, the baboon, empowered by the muthi, would be in control, expertly driving him to his destination.

His face turned solemn as he revealed that the baboon had faithfully served as his surrogate driver for nearly two years.

During that time, the baboon drove for him, even passing tollgates without paying.

He would only come in to stamp documents at the borders and at clients, otherwise everything else the creature was able to handle.

At road blocks and even at weigh stations, the baboon was able to pass without hassles.

It seemed like an unbelievable stroke of fortune until the day everything went awry.

Unbeknownst to Musa, the muthi had a dark and unexpected consequence.

The baboon, under the influence of the mystical elixir, began exhibiting erratic behaviour.

It started to invade his personal life, particularly his relationship with his wife.

At first, he dismissed his wife’s dreams of being intimate with a baboon, attributing them to mere coincidences.

After all, everything seemed fine when the baboon was driving.

However, the truth emerged in a shocking manner.

Musa and his wife attended a local church service, seeking solace and answers.

To their astonishment, a spiritual leader singled them out, revealing that Musa’s actions had caused the intrusion of the otherworldly entity into their lives.

Denial was his initial response as he feared a backlash from his wife, but a week later, the unimaginable happened.

The once obedient baboon turned violent and also forced itself upon him, sodo…ing causing him immense pain and distress.

Terrified and desperate for help, Musa confided in his wife, sharing the full extent of his secret and the consequences of his actions.

Together, they returned to the prophet who had initially revealed the truth to them.

The prophet, a figure of wisdom and guidance, listened patiently to Jacob’s confession.

Armed with spiritual knowledge, the prophet took decisive action.

He destroyed the muthi, severing the connection between Musa and the vengeful baboon.

Although Musa has found some relief, he still occasionally encounters the baboon in his dreams.

Yet, he is grateful that it no longer subjects him to the painful assaults he had endured.

Reflecting on his experiences, he realizes the gravity of his mistakes and the dangers of succumbing to peer pressure.

As the interview concluded, Musa urged his fellow truck drivers to resist the allure of muthi and other shortcuts that promise easy success.

He cautions against trading integrity for fleeting advantages and implored others to stay very far away using muthi.

Reflecting on his experiences, Musa realized the folly of his actions.

He had succumbed to peer pressure and the desire for an easier path, ignoring the warnings and potential consequences.

He had taken a shortcut that had brought him and his loved ones pain and suffering.

He knew he had learned a valuable lesson and made a vow to himself to share his cautionary tale with other truckers.

Through his confession and the subsequent journey of redemption, Musa is advocating against the use of muthi and the dangers it posed.

He urges his fellow truck drivers to resist the allure of shortcuts and to prioritize their own well-being and the well-being of their loved ones.

He has learned that the price to pay for succumbing to peer pressure and seeking quick solutions far outweighed any benefits they might offer.

Musa says that his wife has not yet forgiven him for his actions and he understands, saying he will do everything to make it up to her.

And so, Musa’s confession serves as a cautionary tale, a reminder to all who heard it that the pursuit of shortcuts and the pressures of conformity could lead to unexpected and devastating consequences.

It stands as a testament to the importance of personal integrity and the power of redemption, teaching everyone that true strength comes not from taking the easy way out, but from facing the challenges of life head-on.
