Four people were killed when their car collided with a truck on N2 near Mossel Bay late on Monday night.

The VW Polo in which they were travelling, which was heading towards George from Cape Town on the N2, caught fire after a head-on collision with a truck at 23.30pm on the N2 near Dana Bay.

One of the lanes had to be closed for a considerable length of time after the crash.

“It is alleged the driver of a light motor vehicle lost control of his car and collided with a truck that was travelling from Cape Town to George,” said Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa

Africa says all the occupants of the light motor vehicle burnt to death.

In Bothasig, Cape Town, two women were killed yesterday when a Mercedes-Benz crashed into a residential building.

“A motor vehicle accident took place between De Grendel Road and Plattekloof Road. The driver of the Mercedes Benz lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the residential building,” Traffic chief inspector Maxine Bezuidenhout said.

“Two women were found lying underneath the building rubble when paramedics, Life Healthcare, metro rescue and Western Cape Fire arrived on the scene shortly after one,” ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

“A case of culpable homicide has been opened for investigation. Circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated and no arrests have been made as yet,” Western Cape police spokesperson Mihlali Majikela said.
