A truck driver has been found dead in his truck on the R31 near Potsmarsburg in the Northern Cape.
It is alleged that, shepherd boys saw the truck on Friday afternoon in a very secluded spot near Groenwaterstasie, a rural village in the Tsantsabane municipal area, and thought the driver was just resting.
When they saw the truck at the same place the next day, they became suspicious and decided to investigate.
They approached the truck and found a male trucker sitting, apparently motionless, behind the steering wheel, with engine still running.
They alerted community leaders who went to the spot near the railway tracks and made the shocking discovery of an unresponsive body, reportedly already releasing foul odor.
Community leaders informed authorities and unfortunately, late on Saturday night, the driver was pronounced dead by emergency medical practitioners.
This is the second case of a truck driver found dead in his truck. Last week another side tipper truck driver was found dead in his truck at a truck stop in Vryburg.
In both cases, the cause of death has not yet been made public.
